Zink. American Kitchen closing uptown

Charlotte-based Harper's Restaurant Group announced today the closing of its restaurant, Zink. American Kitchen, located in the IJL building, at 201 North Tryon Street. Open since 2004, the popular eatery is a favorite of Uptown professionals and is known for its twist on New American cuisine, its lively outdoor patio and late night ambience. The restaurant's last day of operation will be Saturday, July 31, 2010.

Tom Sasser, owner and president of Harper's Restaurant Group, said that the location has been purchased for a non-restaurant use. "The buyer has indicated that the space will be renovated for office or possibly retail purposes. Although Zink has continued to be profitable, we had experienced multiple physical plant issues over the years and felt like this sale was a smart business move in the long run."

"We are working with two groups for another location in Uptown or Southpark to carry on the Zink tradition in a new space. We would like to thank our great associates and guests for their loyal support over the years. We hope our friends will stop by this last week to enjoy great New American food and drink from Executive Chef Jon Fortes and the team and let us say goodbye."

"On Zink's last night, Saturday July 31, Chef Jon will offer a 'Toast to Zink' Menu with many of our guests' favorites. It will include Streetside Tacos, Zink's signature 'Not Your Mother's' Meatloaf and Lobster Roll Sliders, among others," said Sasser.

Sasser indicated that they hope to begin serving some of Zink's signature food and drink items at other Harper's Restaurant Group locations. Mimosa Grill, located in Uptown Charlotte at 327 South Tryon, will immediately start serving Saturday lunch and a new Sunday brunch buffet.

  1. Now where am I going to blow 2 bills on food art, before hitting McD's on the drive home???

  2. ^ which 2 bills did you blow? i hope T.O. wasnt one of them

  3. McD's ? What are you 8 years old ?

  4. That's the average age of most posters around here.

  5. Can we please have some articles about the mass amount of restaurants closing in the Burbs ? Can we also read about the mass of foreclosures out in the Burbs ?

So sick of Observer headlines touting the demise of Uptown. Then when you read the article it's actually nothing of the sort. THe business was successful and is looking at other Uptown locals.

    ReplyDelete
  6. This really isn't the demise of something in uptown. The owner of the property essentially got bought out. From rumors that I've heard it will be a 5/3 Bank retail operation. The bank recently put their NC HQ in the IJL building.

    ReplyDelete
  7. I've heard the same rumor. BofA owns the building and offered up the Zink retail space to Fifth Third as part of the larger lease deal in the building.

    ReplyDelete
  8. It is going to be a 5/3 branch, from what I hear as well (inside).

  9. Charlotte needs a good brunch. Wise decision Chef Jon.

  10. Sorry to see Zink go, with their lunch specials (and of course punch cards) it's one of the nicer places to eat that is affordable! Good Luck wherever you move to.

  11. 9:37 am, the glut of condo foreclosures are where? Did the Epicenter just close in downtown Cornelius? I must have missed that as well.

    ReplyDelete
  12. Went here once. The food portions were too small and overprices. I won't miss this place!

    ReplyDelete
  13. 10:45 a.m. - The Epicentre DID NOT CLOSE. It's actually wildly successful, whether it's your scene or not. And I guarantee you there are more foreclosures in any CLT suburb than in uptown.

    ReplyDelete
  14. I thought Zink was a well-priced, comfortable restaurant. Not stuffy, but still excellent food. People are saying this place was overpriced with small portions, but I doubt they've ever been there. The portions are plenty unless you are used to eating enough for three people. I will look forward to Zink's return at another location!!

  15. Definitely very little foreclosures in uptown. Our building of almost 400 units has only had 4 foreclosures during this downturn and most of our unit owners work for the banks.

So go cry a river somewhere else Burb Boy. Your subdivision likely has 30% to 50% of it's homes up for sale with about a 20% foreclosure rate.

We currently have just 8% of our units on the market. Average for us even during boom times. And at least we have nightlife, theater, movies, bowling, restaurants, concerts, sports and transit options all within a few blocks walk. What do you have ? Oh yeah, another cul-de-sac. Enjoy the sounds of weed eaters and lawnmowers all weekend long. I'll be sipping a nice cold cocktail while hanging with beautiful women by the pool.

    Cheers !

  20. That's funny stuff. He's calling him a d-bag because he rather spend his weekend at the pool with babes than in the cul-de-sac. That cracks me up. He may be a d-bag for all I know but I rather have his life any day of the week.

  21. Dropping like flies. Pretty soon downtown will be back to the way it was in the 80’s.

    ReplyDelete
  22. 12:08 PM,

Try reading the article sh!thead. They are looking to hopefully relocate Uptown. This is nothing more than the property being sold/leased to 5/3 Bank. Uptown has only had Ratcliff go under and it's hard to believe that ever stayed open to begin with.

We've had numerous restaurants, bars and wine spots open in the past few months. But you wouldn't know that would you since your fat butt never gets unglued from your couch.

Take a look around you. Mid sized cities all over the USA have residents returning to their core. It's the Suburbs that will decay within the next decade. That's where the ghettos will be and the rich will be back where they started, in the Uptown and close in town neighborhoods.

Just wait until gas hits $6 or $7 / gallon like in other countries.

    Bye bye Burbs.

    ReplyDelete
  23. agree with above. it's already barely educated people living outside charlotte limits.

    ReplyDelete
  24. As a resident of Mooresville I dont like that statement. I may not have gone to harvaaaarrrrrddd. I have however worked hard since 20 to make a good life my family. You don't have to go to college to be rich or smart!! You d-bags

    ReplyDelete
  25. I live Uptown in a $450k paid for in full hi-rise condo.
I never went to college either. I just prefer living Uptown.

    ReplyDelete
  26. Well your family might be richer then mine. I grew up the son of a maintainence man. I got everything I ever did on my own. I dont think mooresville or china grove will ever be ghettos. They are best places in NC in my book.

    ReplyDelete
  27. China Grove is for po' uneducated people straight up. It is a suburban ghetto for people to come in and perform service jobs for the people of Charlotte.

    ReplyDelete
  28. Who said my family was rich ? My dad worked an average job at $40,000 per year in the 80's which was decent but by no means extravagant for the NY area.
My mom was a stay at home.

I made my money all on my own. I have also lost a lot of it all on my own as well.

Glad you enjoy Mooresville. To each his own.

    ReplyDelete
  29. what Edward says "China Grove is for po' uneducated people straight up. It is a suburban ghetto for people to come in and perform service jobs for the people of Charlotte." I can't wait until gas goes to 7 bucks!

    ReplyDelete
  30. Amazing... The people that do their bashing never bother to actually read the article. They see some place is closing without realizing it was bought out by someone else and they are looking for another location. Typical for the NIMBYs.

    ReplyDelete
  31. Who will "service you" when gas hits $7 ?

    ReplyDelete
  32. I live downtown. I walk to work. I don't care what gas hits I wish it would hit 10 bucks

    ReplyDelete
  33. I live uptown as well but you don't really want it to hit $10. Because if it does that means everything that's shipped in to you uptown is going to go through the roof. You groceries, your beer, your wine, the food your restaurant prepares for you. Hell, even the cost when the AC tech or the plumber drive in to fix anything for you.

I totally understand your frustration with people who decide to live 30 miles or more out but there's got to be a better way to solve this than $10/ gallon. But not sure what that is. American's wont ever change unless it hits them in the wallet.

    ReplyDelete
  34. How did the story of a restaurant closing/relocating turn into a rich/poor/smart/dumb/suburb/uptown bashfest? And why? What does it matter to the Uptown Yuppie what the Burb Boy lives where he does, and vice versa?

    ReplyDelete
  35. The EpitCenner(!) is NOT wildly successful. That is a lie on it's face. The entire damn place is in bankruptcy due to deceit, lies, and, corruption on behalf of Ghazi and the bar owners. Drunk women falling off balcanies, employees selling narcotics, lawsuits left and right, and now foreclosure and bankruptcy. Very classy. They all have what's coming to them.

    ReplyDelete
  36. EpiCenter isn't going anywhere. New owner perhaps, but that's about it.

    ReplyDelete
  37. That's a damn lie. Epicenter should be bulldozed. They are in a lot of trouble. Period. Glad to see Ghazi and the other New Yorkers are on here to TRY and defend themselves. You may need to save it for the courts. Good luck!

    ReplyDelete
  38. "Epitcenner" ??? Seriously? That just completely makes your argument invalid. Now the actual Epicentre is quite successful. Just go there any evening Thursday through Saturday or when some event is in town. The place is packed. As far as Ghazi goes, that's a whole different story. His failure in making payments doesn't discount the fact this facility is a regional destination.

    ReplyDelete
  39. July 28, 2010 1:39 PM - I hate to break it to you, it won't be bulldozed, nor should it. And sorry, it's not filled with New Yorkers as you so think. Myself and many of my friends are native Charlotteans and we enjoy frequenting the Epicentre a few times a month.

    ReplyDelete
  40. We left the scum of downtown with their drunk whores and vagrants and now we have made our own town in Ballantyne, Cornelius, and the like. We don't need your crime or your wannabe bars"

Uptown Charlotte has one of the lowest crime rates in the entire city. I've lived there for over a decade and have never had one single instance or trouble from anyone. I'm glad you enjoy the burbs and your locked shut brain. I'm even happier that you don't grace our city with your presence and stench.

    ReplyDelete
  44. I think some of you who apparently work for Ghazi that are surfing this site didn't understand that earlier post. I believe they intentionally mispelled Epicenter. So, yes, seriously, that's what they were saying. I don't think you understood their point either about the facts of problems that the bars have had, in addition to the owner not paying bills.

    ReplyDelete
  45. I like ketchup on my scrabbled eggs.

    ReplyDelete
  46. Of course the sheep of Charlotte flock to the epicenter, and no one said anything about it being only New Yorkers that go there. They were referring to the owners and people who run the place! Geez, how clueless can you be. Some people seem really defensive about the facts of what has happened there. Too bad.

    ReplyDelete
  47. We understood our ePITcenter joke. We also don't work for the Schmuck. The place can have all the problems it wants with narcotics, what club scene doesn't. But it's not going anywhere. Almost all of the retail is leased and a giant new place is opening there next month. The place is always packed to the gills 3 to 4 nights a week. They are making money, it will go nowhere.

What they need to do is build a stockage there so we can lock up some of you suburban fools and throw sh!t at you.

    ReplyDelete
  48. Yes, I am a soccer mom and I'm proud to live in Ballantyne. It's just pathetic that these uptown people are on here trying to defend their urban jungle downtown. It's a laughing stock and is destroying itself by the day.

Whoever here said there is no crime is a liar and deserves to be a victim of the worst crime your wonderful urban wasteland up there has to offer. I don't want my family near the drunks and criminals that you see all over the streets at night.

    ReplyDelete
  49. Wow, Ghazi has his workerbees on here in droves trying to defend that monstrosity! Didn't think people were actually this dumb to ignore financial and legal facts.

    ReplyDelete
  50. I live in the suburbs and everyone knows what a hellhole all that is in 'uptown'. Someone needs to flush it all right down a giant toilet bowl.

    ReplyDelete
  51. Listen here Soccer Mom B!tch ! I use to live in your sh!thole boring Stepford Wives Ballantyne. I was about to leave the boring dump of a region known as Charlotte when I decided to give Uptown a try. It was a decade ago so it was just beginning to shine. Now I am happy and enjoy Charlotte (Uptown). The rest of the area out side of South Park, Central, NoDa, South End, Dilworth and Myers Park are pathetic wastelands.

And yes you stupid fuck!ng B!tch we are among the safest neighborhoods in the entire city. Get your lazy a$$ onto the CMPD website and check it out for yourself.

Ballantyne is a boring soulless cookie cutter dump.

Does that about sum it up for you ?

    ReplyDelete
  52. Oh boy, listen to these little bastard 20 somethings use their F words to try and defend a big trashpile like uptown. You are jealous of what you can't have. You are no one, going nowhere. Now enjoy your Bud Lite as you fall off the Epicenter terrace.

You are a pig and true Charlottean to be upset with me because I am a woman who lives in a wonderful neighborhood and is not a whore throwing up in a dumpster outside of one of your makeshift bars. You pitiful little child.

    ReplyDelete
  53. B!tch I am 45 years old and a male. I also don't frequent WpiCenter all that much because it is full of a mostly younger crowd. But it has it's place as all things do. I prefer the finer things in Uptown such as theater, ballet, museums, fine dining and fabulous sunsets over the Blue Ridge Mountainsfrom my condo.

Sure I grab a beer and I have my few favorite watering holes. But I'm not drinking Bud Lite you Burban B!tch. I'm drinking high dollar fine Belgian beers.

    ReplyDelete
  54. She was right. Uptown is infested with panhandlers, beggars, vagrants, criminals, and yuppie drunks playing teenagers. We could care less about the CMPD or their so called statistics out here. We love the suburbs and although I am not a soccer mom, I sure would not move or go uptown unless it was to work - and during the day.

    ReplyDelete
  55. Soccer mom needs her face to be painted white.

    ReplyDelete
  56. Oh my God, the '45 year old angry male' sounds like he is having a personal crisis with the woman bashing. Is this what the rest of you uptown are like? No thanks!

    ReplyDelete
  57. Wow, now someone is making racial slurs agains the soccer mom. Whether we agree or not, this doesn't help us look good ya know.

    ReplyDelete
  58. I wouldn't step foot uptown on a weekend night if you paid me. It reminds me of cockroaches running everywhere.

    ReplyDelete
  59. Charlotte has the largest population of pussies I have ever seen from any of the many cities I have lived. All of you moms and dads in the suburbs are afraid of your own shadow. Holy crap, how on earth would you stand a vacation in the Big Apple ?

News Flash, the so called drunken whores and frat boys that visit the EpiCenter on any given night are your sons and daughters from the suburbs. The 22 year old dunks do not live in $300,000 to $800,000 condos Uptown. They live in the cul-de-sacs of our fair Ballantyne.

    ReplyDelete
  60. Soccer mom speaks for many of us. It is not nonsense. Our children are not at the epicenter, but nice try.

    ReplyDelete
  61. Sad that all the uptown crowd thinks that have to call everyone who does not choose to live uptown names. That's real grown up, and you say you are a 45 year old man, but choose to call someone a Bi***. Becuase she doesn't want to live uptown. That's real classy on your part. I work downtown everyday, and honestly can't wait to get out of this place. I don't care for the bar scene anymore, I've grown out of that, but too each their own. I was around here when Charlotte didn't have jack shyat to do, it does now and that's great for those who want to do the bar thing. Or if you want to live in the middle of downtown, that's great for you. I choose to live out away from downtown, I choose to have a yard and to cut my grass, not live in a glass building etc. Guess what that makes me happy, you living uptown makes you happy. What you do doesn't bother me, and what I do shoudn't bother you. If it does you need to grow up

    ReplyDelete
  62. That's because you are only at "soccer mom" stage.
Wait until your brats are 21.

The drunk kids of the EpiCenter you complain so much about were once running around kicking the little ball while mommy drove them from game to game.

    ReplyDelete
  63. Hey 2:47,

You may want to read the first comment between soccer mom and 45 guy. Then consider just how self-righteous you really are. She started it between her and 45 guy.

    Here it is

I am a soccer mom and I'm proud to live in Ballantyne.

    ReplyDelete
  64. No crap. She wishes harm upon someone for speaking the truth about the practically nonexistent crime Uptown. Unbelievable these soccer mom types. Better watch out I am sure she will mow you down with her giant Suburban.

    ReplyDelete
  65. The fight between the burbs smellers and the city dwellers. Is this going to go on forever in Charlotte ? Never in my travels have I witnessed such hatred.

    ReplyDelete
  66. Dude, everyone hates everyone these days in America. GOP/Dems, Burbs/Urban, Atheists/Self-righteous.

It's the same anymore all over this land.

    ReplyDelete
  67. Anon 12:17 - there have been a few restaurants uptown to go under recently. Besides the Radcliffe, Jolina, Uno's, Harry & Jean's and the Pine Room come immediately to mind. Something tells me that the story about Zink being wildly successful and only closing because Fifth Third bought the space is as much spin as fact. The $50-per-plate restaurants were way overbuilt, just as the $350-per-square-foot condos were way overbuilt. What uptown could really use is some $150-per-square-foot living spaces and some mid-priced places to eat. I still think the Harry & Jean's space should be converted into a Cracker Barrel.

    ReplyDelete
  68. I am visiting Charlotte on business and have been staying in Uptown at a condo owned by my company for the most part of this summer. I travel all over the states for my job and I am telling you that I am thoroughly enjoying what Charlotte has to offer. I am a 37 year old male and there is never a shortage of things for me to do. I've been bowling, to the movies, seen a few plays. I've gone to the NC Music Factor twice to see concerts. I visit your museums and dine at your restaurants. I go jogging around the city every morning that it's not raining and I bike in the evenings. And yes, I do partake in the Thursday night music festivities at the Epi Center. It's quite fun and your women in Charlotte are beautiful to say the least.

Let me tell you that you have an extremely livable and enjoyable center city. I have had no issues with crime unless you call being asked for change twice all summer a crime. You can actually live in the center of Charlotte and not even need a car for the most part. I've taken your train/bus service to South Park Mall and caught a ride with coworkers to go to the White Water Center. Your inner neighborhoods ( I believe Myers Park or Dilworth) is incredibly beautiful and full of joggers and bikers.

From an outsiders point of view you have a wonderful city and it's a shame it seems like there's a lot of you that don't partake in it and choose to stay isolated in Suburbia.

    Just my take.

    ReplyDelete
  69. J,

We just had a short sale in our building and it went for $325/ sq. ft. and that was a SHORT SALE.

    So much for your theory.

    ReplyDelete
  70. J,

You could have bought even cheaper than that price point over at those converted apartments gone condo on Graham St. I believe they sold out in a weeks time though and you are getting zero amenities and living on busy Graham st.

Just like anywhere in town, the nicer the local the more it will cost. The further away from Trade/Tryon you get the cheaper it will be.

You can't expect to live on Tryon or Church for $150/ sq. ft. Not gonna happen. But you can give up size for location. You can have a McMansion in the Burbs for $400,000 or a nice 1,200 sq. ft. pad in the center of town. It all depends on what you want.

You can also have a $200,000 2,500 sq. ft. home on a cul-de-sac or you can cram it into a 700 sq. ft. pad in the city.

It's just choices and they are yours to make.
There's millions of people in the world living in cities that they desire to live in and to do so they have to accept smaller square footage. It's a given.

    ReplyDelete
  71. Uptown isn't I-85. We don't need or want a Cracker Barrel. How about a good Jewish Deli ? You know, lox, cream cheese, whitefish salad, home made bagels and rye, corned beef and pastrami. The real deal ! A real deli is what Uptown needs. Not another chain store like the Fudgery or Brueggers. Why would you want the same junk in the Burbs to be in a downtown destination ? People come downtown for a night out and something different.

    ReplyDelete
  72. To dispell stereotyping, I'm 58 and like the 3:13 poster, my wife and I too live in Uptown but in a Single Family Residence in the Fourth Ward. A small yard (complete with weedwhacker), a garden and a front porch. You might say a bit of suburbia, no? The difference is we sit on our front porch, say "hey" to passerbys and enjoy all the City has to offer - including bars, restaurants and cultural activities. What we do not do is retire to our "deck" in the back isolated from everyone and oblivious to what this great City has to offer.
Our home is within a couple of blocks or low income housing and we see a number of homeless "commuters" pass by every day. We've not been assulted, robbed or threatend.

Personnaly, I welcome the newer condo residents to Uptown - they've brought a vibe and livliness that did not exist 10 years ago. I also welcome our suburban visitors as they hopefully will have thier eyes opened and predujudices dispelled about the "Uptown Crowd" once they can experience what Charlotte can offer.

    ReplyDelete
  73. Thanks Anon 3:13. I am a Charlotte native (probably one of the very few posting on this board) who is very proud of her city. I grew up 5 miles away from uptown and have decided to move to the suburbs only because we can have more house this way. The main reason we didn't want to live uptown was the irritation of having to hear police/fire/ambulance sirens 24/7. I enjoy events both uptown and in the burbs. Restaurants not only uptown but all over the city and county are closing, both from the economy and also for reasons we don't know about. No reason to argue about this or where others live. I say live and let live!

    ReplyDelete
  74. Ok, well let’s think about this…we live in the U.S. and can all chose where to live. Personally I live on Lake Norman and work Downtown, both are wonderful places and all this bickering is just silly. Soccer Mom, enjoy Ballantyne, but please don’t call Downtown a dump, because it’s not, really it’s not. Downtown is diverse and I wish that my Lake Norman neighborhood had some diversity.

Downtown crowd, who cares if people don’t like Downtown, more space at the bar!

    ReplyDelete
  75. Uptown is killing itself. Everyone knows this is just a bunch of condo salespeople on here running their pie holes with lies. The comments on here about the problems with uptown, and its businesses, are very true. Only a bunch of fools would just walk around in such a cloud of cluelessness. Nice going Charlotte.

    ReplyDelete
  76. I found the comment about the watering holes and their polar opposites serving HIGH dollar FINE Belgiam beer funny.
Half the people drinking those HIGH dollar Belgiam beers wouldn't know if something is good unless it is atached with a high priced sticker telling them it is good.
You take a P!ssy beer and switch the label(and the price tag to a HIGH dollar)and that same naive bunch will tell you - that P!SSY beer - is the best thing they ever had.
Funny how HIGH dollar MUST mean it is good here in Charlotte.
You can swith the beverage out with food/service ect. ect. and the same bunch will line up to be ripped off. Please pass the Pabst.

    ReplyDelete
  77. Uptown is fantastic. We just moved up here this year with our 11 year old daughter. It's been great to be able to introduce everything the city has to offer to her. We love our walks through Fourth Ward Park, The Green and feeding the geese at Marshal Park. We can't wait until the city opens the 6 acre park over by Church and 3rd St. as well as the park at the new UNCC Uptown campus.

  79. I am the 'soccer mom' and I said my peace. I can call it anything I want, and it is a trash hole of crime and drunk whores running from bar to bar. It's sickening to us and nothing but a big hellhole. It's really charming to see the little nomads that call uptown home scurrying around trying to defend such a big pile of nothing. Your words are in vain.

    ReplyDelete
  80. High Dollar Belgian Beer means it is made of the purest ingredients, filtered water and to the strictest purity laws. It also comes with a kick. Most are 10% PLUS in alcohol content. Some even approaching 20%.

So go take your 2% Alcohol tap water MSG laden Pabst Blue Ribbon and shove it my Redneck Buddy.

    ReplyDelete
  81. Soccer C@nt is back. Welcome back you fat slob of a B!tch ! So glad you don't visit us in Uptown.

Have you checked the crime stats yet ? Go ahead, you will see Uptown (inside I-277) has less crime than your lovely BallenHole.

New flash for you. Criminals have cars. They drive to neighborhoods like your to rob and rape you. We are locked up in hi-rises behind security gates and key - fob entries. You on the other-hand, unless you are in a gated security patrolled neighborhood are totally screwed.

    ReplyDelete
  82. I do enjoy seeing "soccer mom" dig her own stupidity hole! Talk about closed-minded! The only thing in "vain" is her "brain". HA!

    ReplyDelete
  83. yeah. the M & the N letters on the keyboard are right next to each other. I can see how Belgian could be typed as Belgiam. But only a D-bag would spell check it and correct one for it.
And only a D-bag would enjoy drinking HIGH dollar Belgian beer.
    Pass me a Schaefer.

  89. These 20 year olds on here are quite amusing trying to defend 'uptown' Charlotte. They really don't have a clue. Guess when your head is in a beer bottle and running in traffic every weekend you don't know what the _____ is going on. Wow.

  90. Sorry Buddy, I am 39 and despise suburban trash such as yourself. You come into town and have no concept of how to parallel park, not run over a pedestrian in a crosswalk, use a parking garage ticket machine or even keep you vehicle in one lane without drifting all over the place. You are pathetic timid little creatures. Stay in your comfort zone Bozo.

  91. This reminds me of the movie "Four Christmases". As an ousider looking in you are all hilarious and obviously think way too highly of where you live, be it city, country or in between... Get a life, move to Gulf Shores, skim oil, do something worthwhile instead of arguing over beer and lawnmowers. LOL! Uh oh, now I am sure I will be accused of being a conservationist or some tree hugger. What a bunch of comedians. Thanks for the entertainment on a Wednesday afternoon. LOL2!

  92. You're welcome.

    Cheers !

  93. The only way we'll tolerate those cars drifting in and out of lanes is - if they have been drinking HIGH dollar Belgian beers.

  94. Sorry, we walk. Nice try though.

    Well, not really.

  95. All of you should get together at a neutral spot, like the old Bojangles Coliseum and have a party. Let's see, they could call it the... Amway Convention!

  96. Oooops! It's 4:30 PM and time for all the "Burbanites" to scurry to thier cars and spend the next hour commuting!
Me? I'm taking my 5 minute commute-walk home and starting the rest of my day relaxed, unstressed and about 90 minutes earlier than my suburban brothers and sisters!~
    ciao!

Seek help. Someone filled with as much hatred as you obviously are is due for either ulcers or a heart attack.

  98. Sad to see that people have actually cursed and threatened rape against a mother just because she doesn't like uptown and chooses to live outside the city. Is this really the way the uptown crowd behaves?

    ReplyDelete
  99. Yes, they are mostly out of control twenty and thirty somethings getting drunk and doing drugs. Thank God Almighty we don't have to be up there with it all. Yes, you're right, when 5pm comes, we get the living hell right out of this wasteland. We could care less about the commute. We have all we need out there. Your beloved uptown couldn't function if we didn't keep it running everyday so you can get trashed at night and ruin it all.

  100. "Is this really the way the uptown crowd behaves?"

I can't speak for all of us, but I think most Uptown-dwellers are not sociopathic suburb-haters like some of those who have posted on this thread. If I wanted to live in a big house, I'd move to the burbs -- but since I prefer living in a condo and walking to work, I live Uptown. Every choice has its advantages and disadvantages. For people to lose their temper over someone else's different choice shows that they have a problem.

  101. I'm shocked that the comments haven't been shut off for this article. Some of you people really need a life. I understand someone not wanting to live in the burbs over uptown and vice versa, but come on people. Some of this bantering is truly sad.

  102. Sheeesh!
In town for the week interviewing, considering a position with an uptown bank (or maybe, "was" considering). Looking at condos uptwon, as well as homes around Mt. Island Lake area.
Not used to this type of cross-town "bashing".
Is there really this much animosity between people who live uptown vs. the suburbs??
    What's going on here?

  103. 3500 sq.ft. residence in a wooded area on the lake, 12 minutes from uptown; or, 1300 sq.ft. condo uptown? Same price.
Both have its perks, but the lake house has got to win the cost/benefit analysis.

  104. Anon 6:34, no not everyone is like this just the hateful people on these boards. Charlotte is a wonderful place to live as long as you're not in the burbs they f'n suck.

  105. uptown rules - for one, living in a gated high rise condo means no termites, no paper roof leaks, and no scruff knocking at your front door. Sad to see this place go, I did like the floor tiles and the menu. looking forward to them reopening it soon.

  106. uptown does rule!
Especially if you're a boy...and like other boys.

  107. Live in the 'burbs for now (snoooze) but can't wait to move to Uptown in a few years! We've realized suburban life is not for us, but we gave it a shot. Sure do miss living in a city.

    ReplyDelete
  108. WHY would anybody have any negative comments to say about an establishment that exists in your community? Don't u want your hometown to be successful?

    This confuses me...

    ReplyDelete
  109. I've lived in Cornelius at the lake and I now live in town. Town is sooo much better. I have so much more free time without driving all over the place for life's basic things. I like having everything within a short walking distance. And, for the record, I like not having to mow all that grass. It may not be for everyone.....To each his own, but I love this city. You can have Lake Norman and all the work that life there involves.

  110. Let me get this straight, if you don't live in Uptown you're an uneducated schmuck?

That's hilarious. I live in Union County and got my 4 year degree from UNC-Charlotte. I'll be attending law school in 2011. Guess I'm an idiot too. Good to know Uptown is where brilliant people live, us common idiots live elsewhere.
