Foo Fighters sell out Charlotte gig in seconds

There are a whole lot of disappointed and disgruntled Foo Fighters fans in and around Charlotte today. And a couple thousand elated ones.

Foo Fighters announced Monday a rare club show would take place during the week of the Democratic National Convention next month, and at 10 a.m. Tuesday, tickets went on sale for $63 apiece. By 10:01, they were gone. All of them.

The concert, a benefit for Rock The Vote, is set for 9 p.m. on Sept. 5 at The Fillmore Charlotte.

Foo Fighters were in Charlotte last November. At the time, they played uptown's Time Warner Cable Arena; close to 15,000 fans showed up to see the rock band's hotly anticipated Wasting Light World Tour. So it's no surprise Dave Grohl & Co. sold out the Fillmore -- which holds 2,000 folks -- in record time.

So it's now officially the hottest ticket in town ... but if you scored tickets, scalping them won't be easy: Tickets are non-transferrable and can only be picked up at will call on the night of the show. To get your tickets, you'll have to present a valid ID plus the credit card you used to buy them.

Among those who weren't fast enough Tuesday morning: The Observer's pop culture writer and the Observer's music writer (both of whom typically have access to review tickets). Even the director of marketing and promotions for the Fillmore had to "get in line" with everyone else -- and he ultimately came away empty-handed, too.

  1. Took less than 1 minute...more like 15 seconds...just the time it took me to click "2" on the ticket qty and type the captcha phrase and they were gone. To say I was mad is an under statement...and disappointed. I don't see how it's possible to sell out that quickly, but oh well. We decided to snatch up some $10 Jason Mraz tix for tonight's show at VZAmp. Ya'll lucky one's have fun at the Foo show.

  2. You have to continue trying to purchase the tickets. The reason it's so hard to get thru is due to the high volume of folks trying to buy tickets. I reentered the captcha phrase over and over. Eventually it paid off and I bought two tickets. This was at 10:09AM.

  3. I continually tried until 10:30, hoping that someone had reserved some tix and decided not to go through with the purchase. I had no luck with that plan.... :-(

  5. $1000! That's insane. I do applaud the effort to try and minimize scalping.

  7. Luckily a buddy of mine was able score two tickets... He had been waiting online 10 minutes before they went on sale. Like others, I was SOL in my attempts. I logged on at 9:59 and tried repeatedly for 10 minutes.

  8. The reason a lot of you didn't get tickets is b/c of d-bags like Anonymous at 4:14pm that got on to "try" and get them only to not purchase. Thanks for clogging up the system jack wod, wish I had your free time.

  9. Lol...funny, but I completely agree. That and the one's who are getting them only to sell them for 500% profit.

  11. I was on the phone with Live Nation, and the agent couldn't even get tickets at 10am. He was "in the line" with everyone else too. I tried online for 30 more minutes hoping someone would decide they "didn't want them", but no such luck.

  12. I also logged in early and kept refreshing, but by the time I put in 2 and the password at 10, they were GONE.

  14. It's ridiculous to have the show in such a small venue. Why not the ampitheater next door!

  15. Any chance the Foo see the ticket demand and host a show the next day at TWC amphitheater that holds up to 5k-6k vs Fillmores 2K.

  16. If the Foo's are playing a special show just for the Democrat fools, they have lost my support forever. I vote with my dollars. Glad I never actually paid for any of their recordings. LOL

  18. Dred- The Foo's aren't playing for the 'Democrats'. It's Rock the Vote, not Vote for Obama. In my opinion, this is the only good part about the DNC being held in Charlotte. And yes, I was online at 9:55 & refreshed right at 10:00 & got 2 tickets. The ticket window line will be insane, but what the heck... How often do you get the chance to see the Foo's in a small venue?
